WIP Wednesday

today with two projects:

first of, my baltic blanket grows :) and the testers have started as well :)

IMAG6321.jpg

right now I'm starting to hope my yarn will last me long enough. I hope to at least triple the length I have so far and I do think my yarn might last, but I'm not sure. when I've finished this color repeat I will weigh my blanket and the yarn I have left and hope for the best. I mean in case my yarn won't last I have two options, another trip to Hamburg and hope they still carry both colors or finding an alternative (I can think of adding "grass" and "beach" colors in wave shapes, but I'm not there yet. I just hope I can finish this in the pattern and yarn I have)

the second project has had its appearance before. Although it's been wordless and I frogged everything, I wanted to make a short sleeved shirt with stripes and then I came across a finished Coachella on my instagram stream. And I remembered I always wanted to make one for myself.

IMAG6326.jpg

and now here I go, starting over. I doubled the yarn I have so now I can use 3mm needle (before I used 2.25mm) and now look at the pattern and wonder which size to choose. I have a different gauge as I'm working with significantly smaller needles and normally I would just calculate all the measurements but this shirt gives me headaches. The construction is so different I don't really know where to start. If you ever made this maybe you can give me a tip?

now let's "enjoy" the heatwave together, Diana

a late WIP Wednesday on a Friday

:)

Hey you guys

I know you've been waiting for this, my blanket grew!

IMAG6221.jpg

it took a while and even ripped it out again (yeah I knew stupid thing of being a virgo, we always wanna have things done perfectly) - I eyeballed my border stitches now that I decided to go for a "all waves face the same direction" version of my blanket. I also choose to crochet 4 rows on each color.
the thing that made me start over (again) was a new phenomena to me, now that all waves go the same way, they tend to flow out of the blanket. which means I need to consider this in my side border stitches. On first try I eyeballed these and on last Sunday night (after the fantabulous worldcup win of our team, #germanyWC2014) I looked at my little masterpiece and was like 'duh' no, it's wonky' and I spent the following day with making the side stitches perfectly even, I crocheted a test piece (you will see it in my framed - july soon :)

and then I ripped out 14 rows , fourteen rows . just let that sink in, it took me a while to get over this as well.
now I'm back on track, reworked that 14 rows, wrote the stitches down in the pattern, sent out to the lovely testers and spend some time crocheting on my sofa every night.

IMAG6224.jpg

and what can I say? I'm so glad I did, I love how the waves perform now, how they even shape individual waves all by themselves when lying on the sofa. it's love, I tell you people :)

how do you spend the evenings? and what will you do this weekend?
hugs and kisses, Diana

indecisively

i am sooo indecisively, I've frogged my blanket, I have several little balls of yarn sitting on my couch now and sit in front of my computer playing around with photoshop trying different color variations:

versionmix2

what do you think? which do you like?
I've asked on my instagram and a few of my friends via whatsapp and I got 1, 2 or 5 already. Any other ideas?

in case you wonder what's this about? it's about my last post and my blanket

now I'm going to watch this nights WorldCup game and hope to find an answer to my doubts by tomorrow morning, thank you soo much, Diana

______

WIP Wednesday

<< den deutschen Post gibt's wieder unten >>

This post is about WIP Wednesday and a little bit of how I design and a question to you my lovely readers - three in one, not bad ^__^

I haven't talked about my Baltic Ripple Blanket in a while, basically because I haven't touched it for a while. -- Now that I look at it I know why, I'm just not satisfied with what I have so far. The mixture of, or rather the order in which I've worked the single colors so far just doesn't appeal to me. I love the colors themselves, the rich petrol and the creamy white work wonderfully with each other but the blends just don't.
And even worse the order in which I've arranged the color-blends make it look dirty..

IMAG6125.jpg

So what did I do now?

I took some good old paper, transferred my waves, cut them and tried a few variations..

I think on blank paper I prefer the bold/thin wave version best that's in the lower right corner

PicsArt_1404753939718.jpg

Now I'm considering I have six different colors to include (pure petrol and pure cream as well as 4 blends)

Then again I could skip two and just use four blends (pure petrol and cream plus two mixes) and looking at the picture below I think I will do so. Here I've covered the two "extra" color-mixes and left only the four basic visible

IMAG6128.jpg

What do you think, could eliminating two mixes make the whole thing look cleaner?

I've also tried coloring in my cut out waves to see how I liked the different versions
Then I copied my waves to the computer and used photoshop to try a few arrangements:

versionmix

So this is a little bit of how my mind works when I create something new, I try, start and watch/observe what I have then start all over.
Not being afraid of undoing my complete work is one of my major strengths here I think. In the end I want to love what I made.

and even though I'm still not sure HOW exactly to arrange my four colors (yes I think I will toss two of the blended color mixes) I get closer to what I want. I might rip it all out again once I actually see it in real life ^__^
right now I want to go with a mix of the left and right version of the computer demo above (the only difference is the width of the creamy section).

the middle one makes me want to start a baby blanket though, only using two colors and alternating them with each section ...

And this is where YOU come in my dear readers!
would you like to join me making a ripple blanket? I would need about ten test crocheters to try this pattern and see how it works out, how you adapt it to your color choices. I think anything from two to four colors would look best.
you can adapt it to any size, I plan to write the pattern that way, so it can be easily be fitted to what you want, a baby size, a king size bed, whatever. The "critical" part is a bit of counting to match the rows, but I think it's pretty easy once the first row is established

In order to join I would ask you to join my group on Ravelry, we can chat better over there and exchange pros and cons

what do you think? do you feel adventurous and want to join me? I'd love to chat and get to know you all a bit better.
just leave your rav name here in the comments section or join the group on ravelry :)

or maybe you know somebody who would love to join, please send them a link here :)

so long have a wonderful week, Diana

________

Also was mach ich in solchen Situationen? zuerst mal grübeln, dann ribbeln.
