I am closing this blog and move on.

But don't worry :) I have a new blog:

To learn more about why I made the switch, be sure to read the introductory post here.

and I am sure you will like it over there. It's still a little work in progress, but I think it will be awesome. I plan to change a few things. For example I'm going to make all my patterns available for free, YES! all my patterns will be free. I will add them one after the other to the new site.

Add it to your favorite RSS reader and never miss a new post :)

This process will take a few weeks as I plan to make every doll once more, check the pattern, take new photos and finally upload them. As I said one after the other.

Hope to read you soon on CinnamonPurl

long time no see, right?
well to make a long story short, last summer I was bored of the internet, then I was busy applying for new position within my company, and whohhoooo I got the job! :)
In January I started the new job, better money, better evening times, but completely different schedule. I was working as a med rep and now I'm working from desk again, so completely different, but I love it!
And the real big bonus, I have free evenings again. As a med rep your day is quite nice when out and about and visiting your clients, but when you come home there's still a lot of work waiting at your "home office". I loved the fee spirit of my former position but OMG I so enjoy my evenings and sundays now. Nothing to do than cooking, family, friends and knitting.
And I can tell you there has been a lot of knitting happening this year already. I'm about to finish my second cardigan this year. Two knitted cardigans in just two month. That's an awful lot of knitting in my world!

But first let me show you a few impressions from the last couple of month, in case you don't follow my instagram (which you should, Tee-hee!)

-- Hallo ihr Zuckerschnuten

ganz schön lange ausser Sicht, was?

I made a hat for myself -- eine Mütze für mich

I went a little crazy with washi tape for my journaling -- ein bisschen arg wishi-washi ;) bei meiner Art des Project Life

I made a "pinterest made me do it cake", looked fantastic, tasted good, was my birthday cake, somehow -- mein erster Blumenkuchen, frei nach pinterest, toll geworden ist er, und sowas wie mein Geburtstagskuchen

I went stash busting and came home with these beauties (they're going to be a cardigan too, desk people can wear a lot of cardigans, right?)

made a hat for my man and enjoyed autumn: -- eine Mütze für ihn gab es auch

enjoyed the "Lichtgrenze", marking 25 years of a united Germany, with light balls all along the former wall of Berlin -- und wir haben die Lichtgrenze abgelaufen, schon beeindruckend war das

started my first cardigan, and went all happy over my first vertical buttonhole -- die erste Jacke, mit vertikalem Knopfloch, ich war so stolz auch mich

bought him some flowers for Valentines Day -- ich hab ihm Blumen zum Valentinstag mitgebracht

ate "a bit" of sushi -- ein klein wenig Sushi gab es auch

and

last but not least caught the cold so I had some time with TV on the sofa.

I hope you had a nice last six month as well and read you soon :) -- ich hoffe eure letzten Monate waren toll, bis bald

hugs, dianaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15578909209590315206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265943971944461341.post-30491462756963571032014-08-18T17:46:00.000+02:002014-08-18T17:46:12.153+02:00journal updateit's been a while, since I showed you my brand new fauxdori. I still use and love it a lot. But one little thing bothered me. On Friday night I finally did something about it:
I realized that I only needed two journals in there. As much as I love all these full stuffed, packed midoris /travelers notebooks I see online, I needed to be self-critic and confess, I need just two!
But putting two notebooks into a midori isn't that easy. You can use an additional elastic to fix the second book to the first one, but that wasn't my cup of tea, too floppy. So I changed the elastic on my notebook to a thinner one. I threaded the new elastic twice to mimic two elastics and therefore have two strings to attach my notebooks. It works wonderfully :)

now you might ask what I use my fauxdori for?
mainly as a diary mixed with some sketches and doodles and a few photos. The second notebook serves as my knitting/crochet notebook on the road. I have a few notebooks for all my wips but sometimes when I'm leaving the house it's nice to have it all in one place. So the second one gets filled with notes on exactly these projects, small ones, like coasters or my latest "butterfly project" (I will tell you more on this soon)

I'm not ready yet to let you get a clear view inside my books, but I'm sure I will add a few pics sooner or later

so long, have a wonderful week my lovelies

__________

Holy Moly! This month was fun!

so in June I challenged myself to only take pictures related to yarn or amigurumi in July. And for the most part I did it ^__^
sometimes it was a real challenge on other days it was a blast. And I got to get to know some of you a little bit better too! How awesome is this? I want to thank you all for joining and commenting and sending hearts, it was so cool in July with you all on my instagram feed !!

and August? well I plan to mix from now on, I do like the diary thing that this challenge comes with, how at the end of a month I can look back and see my life in pictures again, and I also liked the fun I had with you and my yarny pictures. So I think I will just mix both as good as I can. It's another challenge I guess ^__^ and I love to see you join!

_______

right now I'm starting to hope my yarn will last me long enough. I hope to at least triple the length I have so far and I do think my yarn might last, but I'm not sure. when I've finished this color repeat I will weigh my blanket and the yarn I have left and hope for the best. I mean in case my yarn won't last I have two options, another trip to Hamburg and hope they still carry both colors or finding an alternative (I can think of adding "grass" and "beach" colors in wave shapes, but I'm not there yet. I just hope I can finish this in the pattern and yarn I have)

the second project has had its appearance before. Although it's been wordless and I frogged everything, I wanted to make a short sleeved shirt with stripes and then I came across a finished Coachella on my instagram stream. And I remembered I always wanted to make one for myself.

and now here I go, starting over. I doubled the yarn I have so now I can use 3mm needle (before I used 2.25mm) and now look at the pattern and wonder which size to choose. I have a different gauge as I'm working with significantly smaller needles and normally I would just calculate all the measurements but this shirt gives me headaches. The construction is so different I don't really know where to start. If you ever made this maybe you can give me a tip?

now let's "enjoy" the heatwave together, Diana

______

Hey you guys

I know you've been waiting for this, my blanket grew!

it took a while and even ripped it out again (yeah I knew stupid thing of being a virgo, we always wanna have things done perfectly) - I eyeballed my border stitches now that I decided to go for a "all waves face the same direction" version of my blanket. I also choose to crochet 4 rows on each color.
the thing that made me start over (again) was a new phenomena to me, now that all waves go the same way, they tend to flow out of the blanket. which means I need to consider this in my side border stitches. On first try I eyeballed these and on last Sunday night (after the fantabulous worldcup win of our team, #germanyWC2014) I looked at my little masterpiece and was like 'duh' no, it's wonky' and I spent the following day with making the side stitches perfectly even, I crocheted a test piece (you will see it in my framed - july soon :)

and then I ripped out 14 rows , fourteen rows . just let that sink in, it took me a while to get over this as well.
now I'm back on track, reworked that 14 rows, wrote the stitches down in the pattern, sent out to the lovely testers and spend some time crocheting on my sofa every night.

and what can I say? I'm so glad I did, I love how the waves perform now, how they even shape individual waves all by themselves when lying on the sofa. it's love, I tell you people :)

how do you spend the evenings? and what will you do this weekend?
hugs and kisses, Diana

_____

This post is about WIP Wednesday and a little bit of how I design and a question to you my lovely readers - three in one, not bad ^__^

I haven't talked about my Baltic Ripple Blanket in a while, basically because I haven't touched it for a while. -- Now that I look at it I know why, I'm just not satisfied with what I have so far. The mixture of, or rather the order in which I've worked the single colors so far just doesn't appeal to me. I love the colors themselves, the rich petrol and the creamy white work wonderfully with each other but the blends just don't.
And even worse the order in which I've arranged the color-blends make it look dirty..

So what did I do now?

I took some good old paper, transferred my waves, cut them and tried a few variations..

I think on blank paper I prefer the bold/thin wave version best that's in the lower right corner

Now I'm considering I have six different colors to include (pure petrol and pure cream as well as 4 blends)

Then again I could skip two and just use four blends (pure petrol and cream plus two mixes) and looking at the picture below I think I will do so. Here I've covered the two "extra" color-mixes and left only the four basic visible

What do you think, could eliminating two mixes make the whole thing look cleaner?

I've also tried coloring in my cut out waves to see how I liked the different versions
Then I copied my waves to the computer and used photoshop to try a few arrangements:

So this is a little bit of how my mind works when I create something new, I try, start and watch/observe what I have then start all over.
Not being afraid of undoing my complete work is one of my major strengths here I think.
In the end I want to love what I made.

and even though I'm still not sure HOW exactly to arrange my four colors (yes I think I will toss two of the blended color mixes) I get closer to what I want. I might rip it all out again once I actually see it in real life ^__^
right now I want to go with a mix of the left and right version of the computer demo above (the only difference is the width of the creamy section).

the middle one makes me want to start a baby blanket though, only using two colors and alternating them with each section ...

And this is where YOU come in my dear readers!
would you like to join me making a ripple blanket? I would need about ten test crocheters to try this pattern and see how it works out, how you adapt it to your color choices. I think anything from two to four colors would look best.
you can adapt it to any size, I plan to write the pattern that way, so it can be easily be fitted to what you want, a baby size, a king size bed, whatever. The "critical" part is a bit of counting to match the rows, but I think it's pretty easy once the first row is established

In order to join I would ask you to join my group on Ravelry, we can chat better over there and exchange pros and cons

what do you think? do you feel adventurous and want to join me? I'd love to chat and get to know you all a bit better.
just leave your rav name here in the comments section or join the group on ravelry :)

or maybe you know somebody who would love to join, please send them a link here :)

so long have a wonderful week, Diana

________

Also was mach ich in solchen Situationen? zuerst mal grübeln, dann ribbeln.

Hey guys, today I want to share a very easy and quick DIY.

My friend Uli just got one year older and I wanted to make a special shirt for her. We challenge each other to do more sports each month and this shirt seemed perfect.
Also she allowed me to share her picture if she was looking good, which of course she does, so please leave a comment and tell her she looks like she just came home from vacation ^__^

_____

what do you need?
- a sports shirt (or any other t-shirt, depending on what you want to make)
- fabric paint (mine is washable up to 40°C, and ironing will fix it, take care to check on the fabric of your shirt to make sure they match)
- a paint brush
- a printer and paper to print your design, an iron to fix your paint later

how does it work?
1 - create you design on your computer (I just opened word, entered the sentence 'gonna run til I don't jiggle, and sized the single rows til they matched each other in width
2 - print your design
3 - tape your design onto the wrong side of your shirt, e.g. place it inside your shirt and fix it with tape so it won't shift, taping it between the front and back layer also keeps paint from seeking through to the back
4 - for simplicity tape your shirt onto a window
5 - paint your design
6 - let it dry and iron it according your the description on your paint of choice
7 - wrap it up and wait for the smile when the recipient opens the package

that's it :) told you it was easy and quick - I hope you enjoyed this little DIY
hugs, Diana

__________

was braucht ihr?

habt eine schöne Woche, DianaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15578909209590315206noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265943971944461341.post-79371152280623072682014-06-25T20:43:00.000+02:002014-06-25T20:43:15.426+02:00wordless WIP WednesdayAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15578909209590315206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265943971944461341.post-23224502469830631982014-06-23T11:34:00.000+02:002014-06-29T11:44:24.728+02:00Framed - May 2014better late then never right? and better looking back on May before June ends too ^__^

It was the hottest weekend so far and we spent a wonderful time.

Hallo zusammen,

_____

so let's make a travelers notebook today, shall we? I mentioned I made a midori style notebook the other day. I liked the midori the minute I first saw it, but didn't like I couldn't get the paper in a store. The original midori is a travelers notebook that's become quite popular lately and I wanted one to fit regular moleskine notebooks. So I made one.

here you will see how I did it and that you can make it as well. It's been very quick and satisfying to hold the finished piece within two hours.

What you'll need: leather, about 2-3 mm thick, it should be sturdy enough to fold around a notebook and give it support. An utility knife and I recommend a metal ruler, a pencil and some elastic band.

first: measure out the size you will need for your notebook. I sized mine 21,5 cm x 28,8 cm to cover moleskine cahiers. I gave a little extra on top/bottom and to the sides to allow the leather cover to hug around my notebooks. Once you measured draw the outline onto the wrong side of your piece of leather (I got mine from ebay in case you wondered) and with the help of your metal ruler and knife cut it out. It takes a few cuts to get through leather, but it workes surprisingly well.

now let's round the edges. If you don't care about rounded edges, just skip this step. I tried a few coins to see how much curve I wanted for the edges and went for a 1 cent piece in the end. To cut the edge I didn't cut in a long stroke like for the sides but pressed the utility knife down into the leather little bit by bit next to the coin. This made an interesting sound ^__^ and once I cut the edge of I cleaned it while still holding the coin firmly in place and now actually cutting along the coin with the knife, easy peasy

to punch the holes into the leather for the rubber band I used my handy hole puncher, you can use an awl of course as well. It's the original leather tool to make holes. Just pushing a needle with the elastic through the leather might cause the leather to tear with time.

I marked 5 holes total, all along the middle of the leather. Two on top and bottom each and one in the middle.

I used a normal sewing needle and some extra thread to make a "artificial extra big" eyelet, pulled the elastic through this super big eyelet and pulled the elastic through the top and bottom holes of the leather cover like pictured below:

For my first notebook I made a classic knot, you can see the grey elastic below. With my second notebook (it was just so much fun, I had to make a second one) I made a different knot. It's pictured in the red elastic and I let it open to take the picture. This type of knot is a lot flatter than the one I used for the gray elastic and therefore fits much better. (Both knots probably have fancy names but I don't know them, if you do, please name them below in the comments section, thank you)

What you can also see in the pic below is that the elastic should cause some tension on the leather cover, this will flatten once you put a notebook inside and will help pulling the notebook into cover.

to finish it off I added a little piece of ribbon to the inner part of the elastic to work as a book mark and also made a loop out of a second piece of elastic which I pulled through the hole in the middle of the notebook cover. This will close your travelers notebook later. You can see the knot inside the notebook below and also how a moleskine looks once inserted.

(just open the notebook along the middle and pull it through the top elastic band, so the 'upper' part of the elastics will lay inside your notebook and the knotted part of the elastic lays between the notebook back and the leather, if you need more pictures on this step and also how to include more than one notebook, just leave me a comment)

that's it! I told you it was pretty simple ^__^

_____

And to pamper myself a little (I've been working like a maniac the last days) I went shopping today. I got a few new pens and watercolor brushes and a travel box for my half pan watercolors.

It feels so damn good to know I will be drawing again. During the last few days I often caught myself smiling while realizing my mind was drawn to sketching ideas.

It's such a good feeling, almost like freedom, like going back to my roots. Very weird but very fascinating and satisfying at the same time. Awesome!

This new freedom when thinking about drawing also makes my "designing juices" flow again. I'm thinking about amigurumi cats. There is this new way of ears I want to try soon. I bet you will like it.

________

Ja! Ja!

Bis bald -- Read you soon, DianaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15578909209590315206noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265943971944461341.post-835630499196890252014-05-10T17:54:00.001+02:002014-05-10T17:54:31.802+02:00procrastinating the enthusiastic wayToday I need to do my office, instead I can't wait for some leather to arrive so I can make myself a midori, which will be filled with moleskine notebooks.

Lately I've started a Filofax again and as I'm drooling through other blogs and videos on journals I came across midoris. Oh how awesome are these? I immediately fell in love and very quickly began to design my own in my mind. As much as I love the midori style I don't like that you can't buy the refills in a regular bookstore. Moleskins you can. So next best thing to do is make my own.

I plan to transfer my 'dear diary' style journal into one.

Today I spent most of my day looking through moleskins on pinterest. I even made a new board just for this purpose.

Back in school and university I used to draw a lot, I even planned to go to art college. But starting to work I drew less and less, I always figured I didn't have enough space. Now I imagine a daily diary with my sketches. It will be so awesome!

How do you spend the weekend?, xo Diana

Also mach ich mir meinen eigenen.

Wie verbringt ihr denn euer Wochenende?, xo DianaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15578909209590315206noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265943971944461341.post-2515088710244420682014-05-02T15:00:00.000+02:002014-05-02T15:00:00.770+02:00drooled #2crochet can be so beautiful! btw this is the last post about this blanketAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15578909209590315206noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6265943971944461341.post-65332924722538959002014-04-22T17:38:00.000+02:002014-04-22T17:38:42.897+02:00Easter Bunny bun rollsOkay so pinterest is my latest addiction and I was rummaging it for some Easter ideas when I found these bun rolls. I also found this fail, But honestly? I think some people just want to make things fail. Anyways I gave them a try.

I didn't find these to be hard to do. I used my favorite bread bun recipe and let the dough rise. Then I formed six balls and started cutting ears. To find the right angle though is tricky. My first try was too flat, but hey it's only dough, I just reformed the ball and started over.

Now looking at my cute buns I think they are more like cats but they're still cute and cheer the Easter mood.

Googling before I started also made me find this video on YouTube which I found very helpful. Molding the ears and eyes is a must-do. I used a chopstick for this part.
Also thinking about my buns I think next time I wouldn't cut the dough all the way through for the ears, as the further rising made them shrink and also lift a little, which I needed to repair with the chopstick.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend

so above you can see at what stage I am right now. and in this post you can see my first two stages. Now my dilemma: I just don't know if I like the texture. I mean I now like the new needle size and the feel of the fabric BUT I'm not sure whether I like the alternating ribbing. I might like a pure ribbing a lot better. And I think the thinner lighter stripes would pop a lot more. If you take a look at the stripes in the stockinette version you can see that these thinner stripes show off better. What do you think???

also I feel like the finished shawl would lay and drape a bit nicer with a clean ribbing. Do you know any shawls that use ribbing throughout? I'm not afraid of frogging and re-knitting everything so that's not an issue but I'm unsure whether I like it or not. What do you think? Please give me your input.

so long, happy Good Friday, Diana

edit: I think a close up of the pattern will be quite helpful. You can see the "alternating ribbing" here a lot better. With alternating I mean to change from purl-knit ribbing to knit-purl ribbing between each color section. I think if I just stuck to one ribbing it might look cleaner and drape better. I've also started to widen the lighter sections to four rows instead of two as I wanted to show this lighter color more.
