m2 - increase: make two sc into one stitch

4__ sc1, m2, sc3, m2, sc2
5__ (m2, sc4) x2
6__ sc4, m2, sc5, m2, sc1
7__ sc3, m2, sc6, m2, sc3
8__ front loop only: chain1, (hdc1, dc1, chain2, slst1 into 2nd st from hook, dc1 into same st as last dc, hdc1, slst1) x4; BO
attach new color (see picture 1 and 2 below for help)
9__ back loop only of previous row 7: sc16
10__ (m2, sc3) x4
11__ front loop only: chain1, (hdc1, dc1, chain2, slst1 into 2nd st from hook, dc1 into same st as last dc, hdc1, slst1) x5, BO
attach new color
12__ back loops only of previous row 10: sc20
13__ (m2, sc4) x4
14__ chain1, front loop only: (hdc1, dc1, chain2, slst1 into 2nd st from hook, dc1 into same st as last dc, hdc1, slst1) x6
attach new color
15__ back loop only of previous row 13: sc24

attach new yarn (stem color)
26-27__ sc8
28__ (m2, sc1) x4
29__ sc12
30__ sc2tog x6
BO with a slip stitch and add a little stuffing to the stem if you wish
hide yarn ends decorate if you want, use yarn ends in different colors or even glittery yarns; I preferred mine simple and neat.

pic 1: binding off one color and attaching the new one: BO "old" color with a slip stitch, sew in end and pull end inside of tree; attach new color by pulling up a loop

pic2: crochet in back loops and secure both yarn ends (old & new color) by tying a knot
