and then a new year started

Hello my lovelies,

long time no see, right?
well to make a long story short, last summer I was bored of the internet, then I was busy applying for new position within my company, and whohhoooo I got the job! :)
In January I started the new job, better money, better evening times, but completely different schedule. I was working as a med rep and now I'm working from desk again, so completely different, but I love it!
And the real big bonus, I have free evenings again. As a med rep your day is quite nice when out and about and visiting your clients, but when you come home there's still a lot of work waiting at your "home office". I loved the fee spirit of my former position but OMG I so enjoy my evenings and sundays now. Nothing to do than cooking, family, friends and knitting.
And I can tell you there has been a lot of knitting happening this year already. I'm about to finish my second cardigan this year. Two knitted cardigans in just two month. That's an awful lot of knitting in my world!

But first let me show you a few impressions from the last couple of month, in case you don't follow my instagram (which you should, Tee-hee!)

ganz schön lange ausser Sicht, was?

ja, da gab's so einiges in den letzten Monaten was mich vom Rechner ferngehalten hat:
zuerstmal keine Lust auf Internet, ja sowas passiert. Dann wurde es aber spannend. Ich hab mich für eine neue Stelle innerhalb meiner Firma beworben, aufreibende und aufregende Phase. Und, ja, ich hab die Stelle :)

Im Januar ging es los. Komplett neuer "Stundenplan". Vorher war ich im Aussendienst, jetzt wieder am Schreibtisch. Die freien Abende jetzt sind toll. Im Aussendienst kann man sich zwar seinen Tag super frei einteilen, aber abends sitzt man dann meist am Rechner und macht noch sein Büro. Jetzt sind meine Abende und Sonntags plötzlich wieder frei und das ist großartig. Zeit für kochen, Familie, Freunde und stricken.
Und da gab's schon ne ganze Menge stricken dieses Jahr. Ich hab doch echt schon zwei Strickjacken fertig, also fast, die zweite ist praktisch auch fertig, noch knapp 10cm Ärmel. Und das in zwei Monaten, verdammt viel stricken in meiner Welt :)

aber zuerst einpaar Eindrücke aus den letzten Monaten, auf Instagram war ich nach wie vor recht fleißig, ihr solltet mir da echt folgen, hihi

I made a hat for myself -- eine Mütze für mich

I went a little crazy with washi tape for my journaling -- ein bisschen arg wishi-washi ;) bei meiner Art des Project Life

I made a "pinterest made me do it cake", looked fantastic, tasted good, was my birthday cake, somehow -- mein erster Blumenkuchen, frei nach pinterest, toll geworden ist er, und sowas wie mein Geburtstagskuchen

I went stash busting and came home with these beauties (they're going to be a cardigan too, desk people can wear a lot of cardigans, right?) -- beim Wollwechsel war ich auch, aus gefühlt 20 Teilen wurden diese drei Schönheiten, sie sollen auch eine Strickjacke werden, am Schreibtisch kann man doch bestens Strickjacken anziehen, oder?

made a hat for my man and enjoyed autumn: -- eine Mütze für ihn gab es auch

enjoyed the "Lichtgrenze", marking 25 years of a united Germany, with light balls all along the former wall of Berlin -- und wir haben die Lichtgrenze abgelaufen, schon beeindruckend war das

started my first cardigan, and went all happy over my first vertical buttonhole -- die erste Jacke, mit vertikalem Knopfloch, ich war so stolz auch mich

showed a few of my journal pages -- ein kleiner Einblick in meine Tagebücher

finished the first cardigan (of a few more to come) -- die erste Strickjacke ist fertig

ate a weird egg for breakfast -- ein äusserst komisches Ei zum Frühstück

started the next cardigan -- und die zweite geht los

bought him some flowers for Valentines Day -- ich hab ihm Blumen zum Valentinstag mitgebracht

ate "a bit" of sushi -- ein klein wenig Sushi gab es auch

and

last but not least caught the cold so I had some time with TV on the sofa. -- und zu guter Letzt hat mich ne dicke Erkältung vor den Fernseher auf die Couch gebannt

Framed July 2014

Holy Moly! This month was fun!

so in June I challenged myself to only take pictures related to yarn or amigurumi in July. And for the most part I did it ^__^
sometimes it was a real challenge on other days it was a blast. And I got to get to know some of you a little bit better too! How awesome is this? I want to thank you all for joining and commenting and sending hearts, it was so cool in July with you all on my instagram feed !!

and August? well I plan to mix from now on, I do like the diary thing that this challenge comes with, how at the end of a month I can look back and see my life in pictures again, and I also liked the fun I had with you and my yarny pictures. So I think I will just mix both as good as I can. It's another challenge I guess ^__^ and I love to see you join!

Oh du meine Güte, Juli war mir eine Freude!

Im Juni hab ich mich ja selbst vor die Herrausforderung gestellet diesen Monat nur Bilder mit Wolle oder Amigurumi zu machen und die meiste Zeit hab ich es tatsächlich geschafft ^__^
Manchmal war es tatsächlich eine Herrausforderungen an anderen Tagen ein einziger Spass. Was ich auch super fand, dass ich einige von euch endlich ein bisschen besser kennengelernt hab, ich hab mir eure Profile angeguckt, eine ganze Menge Herzchen verteilt und mit euch getextet, das war toll mit euch meinen Juli bei instagram zu verbringen!

Und im August? ich werde mischen! ganz einfach. Ich finds so schön am Monatsende zurückzublicken und so ein bisschen Tagebuch zu spielen :) Umd den Spass den ich mit euch hatte lass ich mir auch nicht wieder entgehen, also mal so mal so :) ganz einfach! So ist's wohl wieder eine neue Herrausforderung und ich freu mich riesig euch dabei zu haben!


1. red + white right in the middle of summer this maybe is a bit missplaced but it fit the clue ---- mitten im Sommer vielleicht ein wenig fehl am Platz, aber passte zum Hinweis

2. something beginning with k: Krebs, the german word for crab ---- Krebs

3. match: key and keychain, a few days earlier I made one for my boyfriend and it was the first in a series of keychains I plan to make ---- Schlüssel und Anhänger, ein perfektes Paar. Ein paar Tage zuvor hab ich den ersten für meinen Freund gemacht und jetzt will ich noch mehr machen, auch andere, eine Schlüsselanhänger Kollektion sozusagen

4. stars: my first attempt at coasters, both pattern are my own, although I like the front one a lot better (hence the position in the pic) :) ---- mein erster Versuch an Untersetzern, eigentlich ganz gut, beide spontan und nach eigener Anleitung, wobei der vordere gefällt mir deutlich besser, deswegen ist er auch vorn im Bild :)

5. on the table: yarn hook and camera ---- Wolle Nadel und Kamera

6. view: perfect view, maybe squirrels like more wood though ---- perfekte Aussicht, naja Eichhörnchen hätten vielleicht gern etwas mehr Wald

24. water: again my baltic blanket, it's been inspired by water, and looks like water ---- wieder meine Decke, wurde ja auch von Wasser inspiriert, sieht auch so aus

25. home: one of my couches, my favorite place to knit/crochet and with my warm dahlia granny blanket too ---- daheim, in meiner Sofaecke, da sitz ich am liebsten zum handarbeiten und meine Dahliadecke hält mich warm dabei

26. fun: with color and frog ---- Spass mit Frosch und Farbe

27. ten: a small collection of my hooks (i have so many, I don't know how I've accumulated so many ---- eine kleine Auswahl meiner Häkelnadeln, da haben sich ganz schön viele angesammelt

28. cool: what a stupid tag .. with a heatwave outside I just couldn't do this one ---- hab ich einfach nicht hinbekommen, es war einfach zu schwül und heiß

29. repeat: over and over I've made my seahorse Charly, and I still like it a lot ---- mein Seepferdchen, hab ich schon so oft gemacht, und trotzdem immer mal wieder gerne

How-To: Granny Square

I've learned how to make granny squares from the gazillion tutorials that are already out there on blogland and youtube and obviously they are great as I managed to finish a whole blanket not so long ago.
But while working on my "classic" squares I found I made a few changes to the classic granny tutorials that are out there. So instead of making a complete "DIY granny square tutorial" I want to keep notes on what I did, what alterations I made to make my squares look more even and maybe you will find some of the hints useful too ^__^

1 - start by chaining 4 and closing them to a ring

2 - start the first dc-cluster by chaining 2 and follow with 2 dc

note: in most tutorials I found people make three chain stitches to mimic a dc, but I always find that's too much and makes the chain stand out and look a bit wonky, so I only chain 2

3 - now chain 3, as now there's a corner, then do 3 dc, repeat this 3 more times

note: now whether to make 3 or just 1 chain stitch in a corner really seems to vary amongst fellow crocheters. I liked the 3-ch-spaces for corners and the 1-ch-spaces inbetween dc-clusters along the sides of a square

4 - to finish off the first round, chain 3 and close round with a slst into the top of the 1st dc you made in this round

note: I've marked the spot to slst in picture 3 above with a blue dot

5 - chain 3 and work 3 dc into the next space

note: the beginning chain3 equals a chain2 to mimic the last dc in this round plus a chain1 to space between dc-clusters

6 - now always chain3 between two dc-clusters in each corner and chain1 between two dc-clusters along the sides of a square

7 - to finish a round that started with a chain3, make 1 normal dc and 1 "fat" dc

note: fat-dc: I always found my dc+chain-clusters to be a bit wonky, a little off compared to the other dc-clusters. Therefore I "fattened" the dc between the bordering dc and the chain stitch that mimics a dc. To "fatten" a dc I started a classic dc and pulled the yarn through a second time at the base of the slst of the row below to pull up a fourth loop. To finish this "fat-dc" yo and pull through first three loops on your hook, yo again and pull through remaining two loops (basically treat the two base loops as one and pretend to work a normal dc. You can see the two base loops in the picture below.

to finish this round close with a slst into 3rd chain from base

8 - now let's make a round that starts with a cluster right away: chain 2, make 2 dc

note: again fatten one dc here to make this cluster look more like all the others. I like to fatten the second dc of the two dc I work here.

9 - continue this round like before: chain3 between dc-clusters in corners, chain1 between dc-clusters at sides and make 3 dc to form a dc-cluster

to finish a round that started with a cluster right away just chain1 and slst into the top of the next dc / equals the 3rd chain (remember the blue dot on pic 3)

10 - repeat the last two rounds as often as required to make a square of your desired size - either start with a chain3 plus a dc-cluster in the next space OR a (chain 2, dc, fat-dc)-cluster
