my candle flame poncho
I've finished this lovely piece last autumn and some days ago I added pictures to my flickr, so I was able to add this knitted poncho to my ravelry projects
and very unexpectedly people commented and favoured the pictures, and a big question arised: HOW did you do that?
well, I just knitted it, of course that's not the whole truth but for some reason it is: it started as a normal candle flame shawl and I simply stopped increasing on the left side when I reached the width I wanted to have. But now the whole story . . .

Den Poncho hab ich schon letzten Herbst fertig gekriegt aber erst vor ein paar Tagen hab ich davon Fotos gemacht um sie zu meinen ravelry Projekten zufügen zu können.
Überraschenderweise haben sich direkt einige Leute dafür interessiert und Kommentare abgegeben, aber vor allem eine Frage kam auf: WIE hab ich das gemacht?
Naja, eigentlich hab ich einfach gestrickt, natürlich ist das nicht die ganze Wahrheit, aber irgendwie schon, denn eigentlich hab ich einfach den Shawl angefangen und dann links keine weiteren Maschen zugenommen als ich die gewünschte Weite erreicht hatte. Aber nun die ganze Geschichte . . .


First I had the pattern of the candle flame poncho, which I fell in love with the first moment I laid eyes on and second I had this beautiful yarn, some balls of a mint-green color and some in a pale yellow (the layout above gives an idea of what I wanted my poncho to shape like and I planed to form rows of yellow and green)
So I started to knit the poncho: I casted on a stitch and followed the instructions for the shawl, after finishing some flames or leaves, whatever you wanna call it I was forced to realize that I simply hadn't enough yarn, not at all!
One ball knitted into the pattern and only about 20 leaves (which was only a corner) and I figured I would need more yarn, MUCH more yarn, so checking my yarn shop, and -taataa- biiig problem, there wasn't enough yarn in my colour

and reordering my ideas for the colours of the poncho, I bought like six more colours and about 15 more balls and created something like the next picture, it's not the original draft (I seem to have thrown it away) but it's showing quite nice, what I had in mind

Also, was ich hatte war die furchtbar schöne Anleitung für den Shawl und ein paar Knäule Garn in einem blassem Gelb und Grün. Ich begann zu stricken, einfach der Anleitung für den Shawl folgend und musste sehr bald feststellen, dass mein Garn auf gar keinen Fall reichen würde, auf gar keinen Fall! Ein Knäul war verstrickt und ich hatte gerade mal 20 Flammen oder Blätter (wie auch immer) gestrickt, das machte nur eine kleine Ecke des zukünftigen Ponchos aus, also bin ich wieder in den Wollladen und musste erschrocken feststellen, dass meine Farben nicht mehr vorrätig waren

ich hab mich dann entschlossen einige weitere Knäule zu kaufen in etwa sechs weiteren Farben und eine Skizze erstellt, in etwa wie das nächste Bild (es ist nicht die originale Skizze, zeigt aber ziemlich genau, was ich im Kopf hatte)

Wieder angefangen habe ich denn wieder der Anleitugn für den Shawl gefolgt, bis mein Poncho die Breite erreicht hatte, die er sollte (~ 12 Blätter) und hab dann mittels Intarsien die weiteren Farben eingearbeitet

and this picture somehow shows the way I stopped increasing on the left side, but still continued to increase at the right. When I had the lenght I wanted to achieve I stopped increasing at the right as well, which automaticly leads to a decreasing edge and therefore ending.
the 'just stop' increasing is not that simple, you still need to knit2together to get rid of the purl2 bridge which is made between every candle flame, but if you follow this, it's really all I've done.

das obige Bild zeigt wie ich die Rechteckform gemacht habe, indem ich auf der linken Seite nicht weiter Maschen zugenommen habe, aber an der rechten Seite eben schon. Als ich die Länge erreicht hatte, die ich wollte, hab ich dann auch auf der rechten Seite aufgehört zuzunehmen und das führte dann automatisch dazu, dass sich der Shawl ausdünnte und somit endet.
Die Aussage *einfach nicht mehr zunehmen* stellt sich nicht ganz so einfach dar, denn man muss schon noch die Randmaschen zusammenstricken, um die 2LM-Brücke zwischen den einzelnen Blättern aufzulösen, aber wenn man das macht, ist das quasi exakt das, was ich auch gemacht hab.

about printers and smurfs

just got home from a two hour trip to the local copy-shops to print new graph paper,
my designing workes pretty good so far, but I prefer working out a pattern on paper instead of my computer, espescially when it's a pattern with four printed pages. And since my printer refuses to print anything at all and I can't seem to find a way to tempt it I started my little trip - without any result at all, No, we can't print from USB or But you need to pay for an internet connection as well, was all I got to hear - goosh, no thanks a lot !

So I went home, sad and wet - it's raining, again!

but there was also something good happening today, coming home I found a note from my lovely postman who has left me a package at my neighbours
and inside was my bathtub smurf, I hadn't seen it in years and felt like a ten year old again - yeah
it's so lovely, did I mention before I'm collecting smurfs?
maybe I'm crocheting one, a little amigurumi smurf would be fun, don't you think?


Ich bin gerade von nem kleinen Ausflug in die City wiedergekommen, ich will neues graph paper drucken und weil mein Drucker nicht mehr so recht will, wollt ich halt im Copyshop drucken, aber alles was ich zu hören kriegte war 'hier können Sie leider nicht vom USB drucken' oder 'aber Sie müssen dann schon die Internetverbindung auch zahlen' (auch wenn ich nicht online gehen wollte) - Hallo? gehts noch? also unverrichteter Dinge wieder heim, traurig und durchnässt, weil es regnet schon wieder. Und nun sitz ich wieder daheim und werde wohl, bis ich einen neuen Drucker habe, meine Entwürfe auf ordinäres kariertes Papier übertragen, auch wenn ich dann wieder vier Blätter aneinander heften muss

Aber als ich nachhause kam, passierte auch was schönes, denn ich fand eine Notiz von meinem Postmann, dass ein Päckchen bei den Nachbarn auf mich wartet
und darin war mein Badewannen-Schlumpf, den hab ich schon seit Jahren nicht mehr gesehen und war direkt wieder zehn Jahre alt
Er ist ja sooo putzig, hab ich schon mal erwähnt, dass ich Schlümpfe sammle?
Vielleicht sollte ich mal einen häkeln, ein Amigurumi-Schlumpf wäre doch niedlich, glaubt ihr nicht auch?

elf #1

this morning I've finished an elf sock, it turned out quite nice, although I expected the snout to be longer, but hey, it was only an experiment, a way to minor this terrible wool I have stashed (it really sucks, it's supposed to be sockwool, but actually knits like mohair *ugh*)
nevertheless, I somehow really like the result and considering the ugh yarn I luv the result, but it might take a while til I finish the second, but hey it's not like I don't have anything else on the needles.
My second green fishnet already measures about 7, in words SEVEN centimeters and there's an idea forming in my head for my next stocking, which will use up the purple yarn I have left from my first try on the fishnets and I do believe my first design on twisted cables for the back of the stocking will turn out beautiful.

Heute früh hab ich meinen ersten Elfensocken fertig gestrickt, er ist ganz hübsch geworden, auch wenn ich den Schnabel größer erwartet hatte, aber naja, ich wollte ja vornehmlich die schreckliche Wolle anfangen (aufbrauchen, ha), die ich noch liegen hatte, sie strickt sich furchtbar, total fusselig
wie dem auch sei, trotz Allem mag ich das Ergebnis irgendwie, obwohl es sicherlich noch eine Weile dauert, ehe ich mit dem zweiten anfange, ist ja nicht so, dass ich sonst keine angefangenen Stücke liegen hab.
Mein zweiter grüner Fischnetz-Strumpf ist schon gut 7cm lang und die Idee für mein nächstes Strumpfprojekt formt sich so langsam aus. Ich werde die lilane Wolle aufbrauchen, mit der ich den Fishnet zum ersten Mal versucht hab und ich glaube, dass mein erstes Design für verschränkte Zöpfe am Rücken der Strümpfe ziemlich schön werden wird.

green fishnets and purple summer fun

my fishnets are growing. Meanwhile they turned green, originally purlpe but a little too wide, I casted on new ones in a different colour and a few stitches less. I'm already close to finishing #1 (only one more inch plus the toe is missing)

and I also have an idea how to reuse the purple yarn, I thing I'm gonna turn it into the summer fun socks from knitspot, only of course I'm gonna make stockings instead. Right now I'm googeling, flickr-searching to find ideas how to make the increases, plain stst on the back or maybe 2x2 rib, or try to modify the pattern so it's continuous - I don't know


Meine Fishnets wachsen immer weiter, sie sind inzwischen grün geworden, die lila Version war ein wenig zu weit und ich hab einfach neu angeschlagen, nur eben mit grün und ein paar Maschen weniger, so weit so gut, der Strumpf hat Spannung. Ich bin auch fast fertig mit Nummer eins, es fehlt nur noch die Spitze.

Ich hab sogar schon ne Idee, was ich mit der lilanen Wolle anfangen werde, ich glaub ich werd die summer fun socks von knitspot machen, nur eben natürlich als Strumpf und dafür durchforste ich gerade alle möglichen Seiten, um Ideen zu finden, wie ich den "Erweiterungskeil" einbauen kann. glatt rechts und abnehmen oder gerippt oder ob ich nicht doch eine schöne Version finde, das vorhandene Muster so umzuarbeiten, dass es im Rhythmus bleibt - ich bin noch unschlüssig

I was thinking about making them slippers with reinforced sole, so I started to search for the pattern I've seen some time ago but couldn't find it anywhere, none of my google searches worked and this morning I thought to give ravelry a try and whoops there I was: the massage socks from regia

ist es wirklich, ihr solltet euch anmelden, wenn ihr das nicht schon seid
gestern fand ich eine Anleitung für Elfensocken und ich hatte die Idee, die als Hausschuhe zu machen, und dafür hab ich einen Socken mit verstärkt gestrickter Sohle gesucht, ich hab gestern den ganzen Tag gesucht und nichts, aber auch gar nichts gefunden und heut morgen denk ich mir, guck doch mal bei ravelry, und schwuppsdiwupps, die Anleitung, die ich geucht hab: Massagesocken von Regia

Sorry I haven't been posting for some weeks but I've been added to ravelry, yeah :-),
I'm about to start a new job :-),
been busy at my current job as well, we have holidays right now and there are some of my collegues on vacations and that means extra shift for the rest of us :-(
haven't been knitting much lately, I only finished one more amigurumi, Rita Giraffe, you might have seen her on my flickr page.


She was a custom order and I found it pretty difficult to come up with a new design from ot of nowhere. I kinda like Rita, but I still figure I should change something about her head, she's definitely missing a snout.

and ravelry is soooo cool, my user name is knits, and I played around there the whole weekend. It's so cool to view all those other projects, I've added qite a few things to my queue, so many fantastic patterns out there I haven't seen yet, can you believe it? IT IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLAYGROUND !!!

and again I realise I am a lazy person to write new posts =(
